A fresh approach to teaching and learning

Services For Schools Museums provide a unique learning environment and the opportunities to work with original historic artefacts can bring the past to life for many children. Sessions involve close examination of artefacts, discussion and questioning. Problem-solving is at the heart of much that we do. Museum learning is also fun, often including opportunities for dressing-up, role-playing and stories. The emphasis is on learning through personal involvement.

At St. Barbe Museum and Art Gallery we offer a range of sessions for all age groups from pre-school to secondary and tertiary levels. We are always happy to tailor sessions to suit the needs of schools curricula and pupil needs.

We can also provide outreach sessions at local schools. A contribution towards travel costs may be requested in addition to the cost per pupil.

For your own risk assessment purposes, a Hazard Information sheet is available for the Museum and for the Coastal Environment session. We recommend that school staff make a free pre-visit to the Museum.

Costs

Museum-based sessions led by museum staff: £2 per pupil (from 1/1/08)

We also offer School Passes which provide unlimited admission for school sessions for a year, enabling local schools to make the most of their museum and the exhibitions programme:

Whole school and year/class/department passes are available based on £2 per pupil for a whole year of visits.

A special price for large schools or groups (in excess of 200) can be negotiated.
