Volunteer at St Barbe
We are currently looking to recruit more volunteers - especially for our new Sunday opening hours of 11am - 4pm.
When we re-open on Saturday 29 July we will require more front of house volunteers who are free weekly or fortnightly on Sunday mornings (11-1) or Sunday afternoons (1-4).
These volunteers welcome members of the public to the museum and answer visitors' questions about the local area. They work in teams of three or four so it is a sociable experience.
We also have one Saturday afternoon vacancy. Full training will be given.
If you are interested and would like more information, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01590 676969.
What our volunteers do and how to become a volunteer
Volunteers play a central role at St Barbe Museum and their contribution over the years has helped us develop a reputation as one of the most successful and innovative small museums in the region.
Volunteers are involved in all aspects of the museum’s work including serving at the front counter, giving out visitor information, stewarding in the museum, helping with events, research, installing exhibitions, working with the collections.
For most of these roles there are opportunities for multiple volunteers, so working as part of a team is very much a part of the experience. When a new volunteer joins us they will receive introductory training the relevant co-ordinator and annual refresher training where appropriate. For some roles such as Education Assistant there may be a requirement to undertake a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check because of regulations governing people who work with children or vulnerable adults.
There are also regular volunteer briefings and social events.
