Description

Summary: digital image, scan of sepia photograph of the original gateway in the north-east corner of the walled garden at East Grove.

Identification note: The walled garden was constructed in about 1820 as a vegetable garden on land which had been purchased for this purpose. Cabbages were still growing there when the Russells bought the house in 1935. However with the purchase of Miry Mead, the vegetable garden was moved to the area west of the pond and a sort of 'secret garden' was created in the walled enclosure.
