Identification note: New Milton’s main Post Office was built in 1933, and its first official postmaster was Mr Weston. A telephone exchange was installed upstairs in 1934. There were usually three full-time female telephone operators and a bedroom was provided for a male night operator. There were just six telephone subscribers in 1905, rising to 600 by 1933. The Post Office closed in 1995.
