Summary: coin, Antoninianus of Victorinus. O: Radiate bust R, [IMP] C VICTORINVS P[F AVG]; R: Salus standing R holding patera and feeding snake, [SA]LVS AVG

Identification note: Victorinus ruled the Gallic Empire between AD 269 and 271, defeating the German barbarians and suppressing a major revolt in south-eastern Gaul, but losing south-western Gaul to Claudius II, ruler of the Central Empire. Unfortunately he had a weakness for his soldiers’ wives, and was assassinated after propositioning the wife of a senior officer.
