Summary: photograph, black and white, row of shops showing bomb damage in New Milton following air raid 23rd August 1940, mostly in Station Road

Identification note: possibly copied in 1969, 'ex-Kirkman' on back. On the evening of Friday 23rd August 1940 a lone Luftwaffe bomber dropped high explosive and incendiary bombs on New Milton, killing 24 people. This photograph shows damage to shops at 68 - 72 Station Road. Most of the people killed were in the street at the time as no air raid warning had been sounded.
