Description

Summary: lithograph of a medieval tombstone found in Hordle Church. Made by Mary Anne Theresa Whitby and printed at her press at Newlands. Printed on a sheet of cartridge paper, 17.4 by 12.9cm, now much foxed. Below the drawing of the tombstone is a caption in handwriting, also part of the lithograph, "Ancient tombstone found in Hordle Church; June 7th 1830". Actual size of printing about 9 by 6.5cm. The church was demolished in 1830 and the tombstone moved to new churchyard were it lies near the gate. Purchased from Grosvenor Prints, London, 24/4/2018 for £54-£60. Ex collection the late Hon C Lennox-Boyd. Information on sale in file by nos. Since this copy is foxed, if we got a better one this can be sold or disposed of.
