Summary: photograph, colour transparency of painting by Thomas Rowlandson of interior of salt boiling house at the salterns, Lymington, Lymington and Pennington, Hampshire, painted about 1784

Identification note: Rowlandson shows clouds of steam evaporating from the boiling pans of salty water to leave salt crystals behind. Rowlandson shows himself on the left and Wigstead his travelling companion on the right. Between is a salt worker with his long handled shovel ready to scoop out the salt.
