Description

Summary: photograph, bw postcard photograph written and posted to a Royal Navy sailor, showing a meet of the otter hounds at Boldre Bridge, Boldre, Hampshire, postmarked 1906

Summary: donor was previously married to a member of the Figgins family who had lived at Trevin Cottage since C J Figgins's day.

Identification note: the otter hunt meeting at Boldre Bridge in 1904. Otters were hunted from medieval times using otter hounds, an old British breed, which hunt using scent. Otter numbers became drastically reduced so in 1978 they were made a protected species and otter hunting ceased. However, some packs transferred to hunting mink.
