Identification note: Heseltine was a London based landscape etcher and art collector who became a Trustee of the National Gallery. He bought Walhampton in 1883 and immediately engaged the architect, Norman Shaw, who had worked on his London house, to reconstruct part of the house. Heseltine used the local area as the inspiration for his work including this etching of the river at Walhampton. A number of Heseltine’s local views were exhibited at the Royal Academy.
