Summary: Gussy Payne was born in Lower Buckland, Lymington, Hampshire on 27 August 1899. His collection consists of a large number of photographs, mostly colour, taken by himself during the 1970s, together with a number in black and white taken in the 1950s, possibly by someone else, and postcards mostly showing views of Lymington and dating from the early 1900s to about 1960. There is also a large number of coloured drawings made on blank postcards by Gussy Payne, showing Lymington as it was when he was a boy in the 1900s. In many cases these drawings are related to later photographs taken of the same scenes.
