Description

Summary: scan of a sepia photo of the rowing ferry at Lymington Quay. The ferry travelled between the Quay and the laundry on the other side of the river. The fare for adults was 1d; half that for children.

Identification note: The photographer, Willstred, was based in Southampton. The half-penny rowing ferry which went from the town quay to Old Ferry House and later also to the landing stage by the railway bridge for the laundry. People from Beaulieu and Boldre would often leave their donkeys and carts at the Wagon & Horses Pub at Walhampton before taking the ferry across to Lymington.
