Museum

Heritage and art from coast to forest. The museum explores the history of Lymington and the New Forest

Our modern, bright museum displays show how Lymington and the surrounding towns and villages have developed over time. You can find out how New Milton got its name, why Barton is known throughout the world and how various local residents – sometimes even the vicar! – used to be involved in the smuggling trade. There’s plenty for all ages, from stories told by local people at our listening posts to film footage of engineering company Wellworthy, from our Roman and our Celtic coin hoards to a locally-made Lymington Pram.
