Oral History Project

5 March 2019

A donation of £1,800 from The Arts Society New Forest along with a donation from our Friends has enabled us to start collecting oral histories once again at St Barbe. The funding has allowed us to purchase new audio equipment, run a training session for around 10 volunteers and employ a freelance oral historian who will manage the project for us and begin to take interviews.

Our initial focus will be collecting the memories of ex-Wellworthy employees, as we are planning a small exhibition in Autumn 2019 to celebrate 100 years of the company being so named. However, we do not intend to limit ourselves to this topic alone – we are planning to collect memories from people who live within our collecting area or with stories to tell about themes covered in our museum (especially the war, boat building and rural life).

If you would like to get involved or can suggest people who you think might be good interview subjects, please contact us on 01590 676969 or rosalyn.goulding@stbarbe-museum.org.uk.
