Anne Desmet Talk

Gertrude Hermes – The Prawn

Friday 24 March, 4.30-6pm

Guided walk and talk with the curator Anne Desmet about ‘Scene through Wood – A Century of Wood Engraving’ on loan from The Ashmolean Museum, Oxford.

Join us for a fascinating insight into the exhibition which includes over 100 prints from the Ashmolean’s outstanding collection by leading artist-engravers from the 1790s right up to the present. They range over Romanticism, modernism and abstraction, to extraordinary photo-realistic works that defy belief. It demonstrates the endless versatility of the medium which has been used to depict the whole ‘theatre of life’.

Desmet is an elected member of the Royal Academy of Arts, only the third wood engraver ever elected to the RA in its entire history! Her knowledge and passion for wood engraving guarantees this to be a fascinating talk.

Exhibition Organised by the Ashmolean Museum, University of Oxford | Sponsored by Stuart Southall.
