Description

Summary: sailing boat, type known as scow, built by Dan Bran at Lymington, Lymington and Pennington, Hampshire

Identification note: This type of small sailing dinghy was designed by Dan Bran for Lymington’s shallow water. He built the first 11-foot Pram for Captain Nicholson in 1912, and another 14-foot design for the Captain in 1925. To avoid confusion, the 11-foot version was re-named the Scow. They both became popular with the Lymington Yacht clubs. The design, by then in fibreglass, was the basis for the Yarmouth, Cowes, Ryde and Bembridge Scows still raced today.
