Description
Summary: painting, framed oil painting of yachts moored by the sheds of the Berthon Boat Co, on the Lymington River, Lymington, Lymington and Pennington, Hampshire, possibly painted 1930s
Identification note: This view shows a crowded mooring on the Lymington River looking south towards the Isle of Wight. Since the 1930s the river has changed from port to a yachting centre. Hugh Boycott Brown specialised in coastal and estuary scenes and, like the Impressionists who inspired him, he loved to paint out of doors, whatever the weather. Brown was a keen sailor of small boats, particularly off the coast of East Anglia and he eventually settled in Suffolk.
