Description
Summary: leaflet, single sheet Dig for Victory leaflet folded to form 8 sides, with advice on maximising vegetable production during World War II, printed in February 1941. on display
Identification note: At the beginning of World War II, 60% of food was imported into Britain, but with the German U-boat attacks on merchant ships so deadly, it was imperative that more food was grown in Britain. The Government initiated its Dig for Victory campaigns to encourage everyone to grow their own fruit and vegetables in gardens, allotments and spare ground. In rural areas many people were able to grow significant amounts of vegetables and fruit, which they salted, bottled and preserved for the winter.
