Identification note: In 1836, tow boats were introduced to transport cargo and cattle and were either pulled behind the ferry or by separate tugs. This continued until 1938. The cover and photograph are from a booklet promoting travel by car to the Isle of Wight using the Lymington –Yarmouth route, produced by the London and Southwestern Railway.
