Identification note: Mark Wilkins and his daughters Edith and Annie outside Vine Cottage, Everton Road in 1906. Mark lived and worked on Mr Perkins’ farm in Hordle. He later became a carter with his own horses and carts carrying building materials and gravel to the railway at Milton and then moved into a cottage in Arnwood Row on Everton Road. Edith went to Hordle School until 1888 when at the age of 11 she started working at Arnewood House, which was then a school for young ladies. She started in the laundry and later worked as a parlour maid.
