Identification note: The Lloyds Bank building at 39 High Street, had been previously a young ladies’ boarding school run by the Noake sisters. Requiring more accommodation for their successful ‘academy’ they later transferred to Belle Vue House (48 High Street), while 39 became the Wilts and Dorset Bank, later taken over by Lloyds who rebuilt the premises with its current frontage in 1923.
