Lymington to Lagos: Mountbatten – an admiral’s afterlife

Our speaker is Adrian Smith – Emeritus Professor of Modern History and Trustee at St Barbe – is the author of Mountbatten Apprentice War Lord and the forthcoming Mountbatten, Cold War and Empire, 1945-79.

When Admiral Lord Mountbatten of Burma officially retired in July 1965 he was only as old as the century. ‘Dickie’ Mountbatten remained fit and active throughout his years of retirement, travelling the world from his home in Romsey.

Why did he take on so many commitments, why did he continue to generate controversy, and – closer to home – why did he maintain such a close connection with the Solent?

Friends Talks are held in the Lymington Baptist Church (opposite St Barbe) | Doors open at 7pm, talk starts at 7.30pm | All welcome | Friends FREE | Guests £5
