3 – 14 June – Sway Youth Centre

To discover the villagers’ experiences and the role Sway and the Forest played in the war there will be an exhibition taking place in Sway Youth Centre from 3 – 14 June.

It is difficult to appreciate what the people of Sway and surrounding New Forest towns and villages would have gone through during the Second World War, their fears and anxieties as their lives were turned upside down, but also their sense of purpose and determination as they ‘kept calm and carried on.’

With the 80th anniversary of D-Day there is an opportunity to learn about the village residents during that time; the villagers, the child evacuees, the armed forces based here as well as the Prisoners of War. Across the Forest the ambition is to have 80 events for the 80th anniversary and Sway is proud to host three of them.
